Sheet of Combat Paper draining in the mould

Combat Paper linked up with Warrior Writers to offer a joint week-long writing and papermaking workshop at the Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington, DC) in May 2012 as part of the Arts and the Military Conference. The workshop focused on voicing the participants' personal stories, both through the written word and making paper out of military uniforms and articles of clothing veterans wore while on deployment.

Lovella Calica, founder of Warrior Writers, led the writing workshop, while Drew Cameron, director of the Combat Paper Project, spearheaded the papermaking activities. By the end of the week, selections from the writing exercises had been transformed into poetry and stories on the handmade paper. Some of the work was shown at an evening reception following a screening of the documentary film, Where Soldiers Come From, by Heather Courtney.
