The Firehouse Gallery at Burlington City Arts (Burlington, VT) is transformed into an interactive exhibit and paper-making studio. The Combat Paper Project exhibit runs February 20 - April 11.
The exhibit format places the completed art within its creative context; a means of bringing the artist and the viewer together to share in the artistic process. The front gallery features a wide variety of combat paper art within the confines of a fully functioning paper studio; the rear gallery introduces viewers to an array of paper sculpture and a 'reading room' featuring poetry, journals and artist books made from combat paper. The front is vibrant and dynamic, the rear is quiet, more contemplative, more private and introspective.
In the temporary studio, participating artists cut rag, pulp fiber and pull sheets of hand crafted paper giving viewers an opportunity to "see how the art is made" and provide a means to interact with the artists and hear their stories first-hand.
Community workshops in papermaking are offered on Saturday afternoons. |
